In 1948, Waikiki had a small-town feel with lots of trees, open space and very little traffic, as this view looking Ewa along Kalakaua Avenue from the Moana Hotel shows. "Spectrum Hawaii" at 7:30 p.m. today on KHET examines the history of Waikiki, tracing its development from an area of duck ponds to its crowded present, and considering the resort's possible future .
