Steve Yogi (136), Clayton Gomi and Chaunce Lovett, who both shot 142, topped the Oahu qualifying Saturday at the Ala Wai golf course. The top two alternates are David Kang and Regan Lee, who both shot a 143.
University of Hawaii's Mike Pavao, the reigning WAC individual champion, will be among those in the Big Island qualifying Saturday at the Hilo Municipal course. Three qualifiers will come out of the Maui sectional qualifying, also on Saturday at Waiehu.
Leeward, Hawaiian Stars and West Oahu represent Hawaii in the 10-team tournament that runs through Saturday. There is no admission charge for the games that are held from 12:30 to 8 p.m. weekdays, and 8 a.m. through the 7 p.m. final on Saturday.
In Pool A are Leeward, California teams Rug Doctor, Santa Cruz and Sacramento and North Phoenix from Arizona. Hawaiian Stars and West Oahu are in Pool B with Woodland (Calif.), Westmoore (Okla.) and Tucson (Ariz.).The Hawaiian Stars started the tournament in a big way yesterday with a 19-3 victory over Woodland.
Each student qualified by placing either first, second or third at the March state championships. The youths are 7 to 14 years old.
