Recycling key to Pacific Thermal Services

Getting contaminants out of Hawaii soil is a growing business and Pacific Thermal Services Inc. wants to do the job without adding material to landfills.

"Our focus is to recycle this soil. Clean it up and put it back in the ground to a beneficial use," said V. Brian Piccolo, recently named company vice president of operations and environmental affairs. PTS cleans up soil by cooking the petroleum hydrocarbons in a kiln at the Campbell Industrial Park, Piccolo said.

He joined PTS in April after nearly four years at the Unitek Environmental Companies. Piccolo also has operated a law practice and worked for the U.S. Department of Energy.

Piccolo earned a bachelor's degree in environmental economics at Rutgers University and a law degree at Northwestern School of Law. PTS is a Hawaii-based company associated with RCI Construction, based in Sumner, Wash.
