The Hawaii State Association of Letter Carriers, AFL-CIO, said Tuesday its members will join the national union's stand against policies that the union says will hurt mail delivery, including planned automation in the post offices.
Genichi Matsumoto, president of the Waikiki branch's local, said the union is not striking or trying to disrupt mail service, but wants to let the public know about its objections to changes in the postal system.
Statewide hotel gross revenues rose to $184 million, the firm said Monday. In April, Hawaii hotels had a statewide occupancy rate of 73 percent and an average daily rate of $113, reflecting a 6 percent gain in occupancy and a 3.5 percent growth in average rate over April 1995, the company said.
Luxury hotels continued to lead the state, earning nearly $70 million in room revenues, up 13.6 percent over last April. The hotels were 77 percent occupied, reflecting a 4.8 percent increase over last year.
The Mortgage Bankers Association said Monday that the seasonally adjusted delinquency rate on homes was 4.46 percent, down from 4.48 percent during the final three months of 1995. After dipping to 3.94 percent during the January-
March period of last year, the rate advanced steadily during the next three quarters.
