Oahu mail carriers plan informational picket

Oahu mail carriers plan to set up an informational picket line on Wednesday afternoon outside the downtown post office on Richards Street to protest what their union calls mismanagement by the U.S. Postal Service.

The Hawaii State Association of Letter Carriers, AFL-CIO, said Tuesday its members will join the national union's stand against policies that the union says will hurt mail delivery, including planned automation in the post offices.

Genichi Matsumoto, president of the Waikiki branch's local, said the union is not striking or trying to disrupt mail service, but wants to let the public know about its objections to changes in the postal system.
