A light to last 100 years

One million hours of light is the way Standard Enterprises Inc. pitches its new product, a low-cost night light called "Bright Idea."

The company, based in Lake Ridge, Va., is introducing the product at the Better Home Show through June 16 at the Blaisdell Center.

"'Bright Idea' is a patented new night light that is guaranteed to last over 100 years," said Tom Brennan, agent for ECO-LITE, the local distributor. "The revolutionary design features a night light molded into a cover plate, intended to replace your existing wall outlet cover plate. Because it screws into the wall, children cannot pull it out as they would other night lights. Further, the lens and plate are both made of unbreakable material. There is no safer night light on the market."

Even though "Bright Idea" burns 24 hours a day, the 1.5 wattage is so low that annual energy costs are only $1.60. This is based on 12 cents a kilowatt hour on Oahu, says Brennan, former federal/state liaison officer for the Honolulu office of the U.S. Department of Energy.

Standard Enterprises and its affiliated companies have been in energy efficient lighting business on the East Coast for more than 20 years, says Brennan.

"Bright Idea" is only available in Hawaii at the Better Home Show. Special introductory price is two for $20. Normal retail price is $14.99 for one Bright Idea, says Brennan.
