Star-Bulletin staffYou can win $500 in the Star-Bulletin's annual Pick the Dow contest
The Star-Bulletin's seventh annual Pick the Dow contest lets you employ your best predictive skills - expert market analysis? darts? Ouija board? - to tell us where the Dow will be at the close of trading on Friday, Aug. 2.
The entrant who comes closest to the Dow's actual close on that day wins $500. Use the coupon here to enter and be sure to include your phone number. Entries must be received or postmarked by Saturday, July 6.
Also be sure to carry out your pick to two decimal places and to answer the tiebreaker question.
Last year's winner, Lee G. Johnson of Mililani, won with a guess of 4,715.43, only 0.08 of a point off the actual closing mark that day of 4,715.51. He beat out a record 2,434 entrants, including two who were within 0.25 of a point of the right figure.
The Dow average, which turned 100 years old last month, is based on a mathematical formula using the prices of 30 top U.S. companies.
