Look-alike contest can win
Dad big prizes

Hey, Pop, does your kid look like you? Do you share hair and eye color, facial expressions, noses, smiles? If so, head on down to Ward Warehouse Saturday for the Annual Daddy/Baby Look-Alike Contest.

Top prizes are a Neighbor Island trip for two, a Voyager submarine tour and Ward gift certificates. There will also be awards for best-costumed duo and most-spirited duo.

The contest is open to children up to 30 months old and their fathers. Entry fee is $8 and will benefit the March of Dimes.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the judging will be at 9:30 a.m. Information: 591-8411.



Fiber workshops on, off

Those who planned to learn feather lei-making at the Mission Houses Museum Saturday are out of luck. The workshop has been canceled. However, the two other sessions of the museum's Fiber Arts Workshop will be conducted the next two Saturdays.

The lauhala weaving class will be held June 22. Cost is $22 and includes the material needed.

Hawaiian quilting will be conducted June 29. Cost is $12 plus a quilt kit (about $20) that may be purchased at the museum. Both classes run from 10 a.m. to noon.

Dragon boat races at beach

Dragon boat racing, a 2,000-year-old Chinese tradition, will come to the waters off Ala Moana beach Saturday.

Sixty-seven teams will compete in the races , which will run from 8 a.m. to about 1:40 p.m. with entertainment and an awards ceremony running from 6 to 10 p.m. The races are divided into three categories: novice, professional and celebrity.

The Ka'au Crater Boys and the Big Swinging Johnsons Brass Band will perform.

Dragon boats feature elaborately carved,multicolored dragon heads on one end, a jagged tail at the other and scaly, bodies in between.
