Barbecue indoors: Ann Every will demonstrate Krup's Fun Grill at Executive Chef from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and June 15. The smokeless grill allows indoor barbecueing. For those not quite willing to leave the outdoors, she'll also be showing Krup's Open Master, deemed the "ultimate" in can openers. The Open Master will open any shape can, producing no sharp or jagged edges, and it has a stay-clean feature, preventing food build-up.
Chefs on TV: 3660 On the Rise chef Russell Siu shows up on KITV's "Entrees to Paradise with Pamela Young" at 6 p.m. Saturday, cooking up Nori Wrapped Mahimahi over soba, with a Ginger-Soy Sauce. On June 15, chef Steve Weir of the Colony in the Hyatt Regency Hotel will be the guest, preparing Grilled Lamb.
"The Taming of the Brew": Sample Sierra Nevada, Spaten Hefe-Weisse, Chimay Red and Guinness Stout, as well as insight on home brewing, as well as discuss regional beer styles from the United States, Germany, Belgium and the United Kingdom. Anastasy Tynen, editor of Brew Hawaii magazine and founder of the Hawaiian Homebrewers Association hosts this event at the Halekulani's Hau Terrace, 6:30 p.m. tomorrow. The cost is $28 per person. Noodle how-to: Aizu Takasato is home to Raijin soba, or buckwheat noodles, and experts from Japan will be demonstrating the making of soba noodles from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 21 and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 22 at the Ala Moana Hotel's Hibiscus Ballroom. The event is part of the Pan-Pacific Festival - Matsuri in Hawaii, that runs June 14 through 23 on Oahu.
Pineapple and Papaya challenge: Mark your calendars for July 13, when the 6th annual Chef's Pineapple & Papaya Recipe Challenge takes place at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center Fountain Courtyard. The free event takes place 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with top chefs competing for titles, and the first 100 onlookers getting a taste of the chefs' creations.
