The Klompuses, founders of the nonprofit charitable organization, said during an Aloha State Games reception Wednesday night at Washington Place that they will instead concentrate on finding special events to bring to Hawaii.
Lenny Klompus, the charity's chief executive officer, referred to a collegiate baseball tournament he has arranged for next December that will feature the College World Series champion. He said he and his wife, who is executive director, would like to line up more high-quality events like that.
Klompus indicated he has had discussions with pro baseball and pro football sources about possible exhibitions.
"We have turned over the day-to-day operations of the Aloha State Games, the Jeep Eagle Aloha Bowl, the Hula Bowl, 3-on-3 Basketball so Marcia and I can take a step back and concentrate on long-term strategic planning, focusing on bringing in new events to the state," said Lenny Klompus.
"There are a lot of people who want to do things with our organization but we haven't had the time to deal with them because of the day-to-day, nitty-gritty stuff."
The four people who will run Jeep Eagle Aloha Bowl Charities while the Klompuses search for and recruit events are Mike Story, director of events; Mike Griffith, director of operations; Mary Cunningham, ticket manager; and Selisa Wright, director of administration.
