• Snooze in the Zoo: Lie with lions or be a dreamer with lemurs at a Honolulu Zoo camp-out, 6 p.m. Participants enjoy folktales, songs and a tour with zookeepers. Costs $27 adults, $25 children. Call 971-7195. Repeats June 21.

• Honolulu Zoo: Art and craft activities with Cindy Conklin, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Barnes & Noble bookstore presents stories at 2 p.m. Call 971-7174.
• Archaeology of Makiki Valley: Young Indiana Joneses, teens and older, explore prehistoric and historic sites, 1:30 to 4 p.m. Costs $5. Call the Hawai'i Nature Center at 955-0100.

• Day of Knights: The Honolulu Academy of Arts hosts a Medieval Faire, with mock battles and courtly entertainment, 1 to 5 p.m. The Disney film "A Kid in King Arthur's Court" will play in the Academy Theater, puppets tell the tale of St. George and the Dragon, and the Children's Crafts Guild meets at Fountain Court. • Na Pohaku O Makiki: Children 9 and older visit rocks special to ancient Hawaiians and try to learn their secrets, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Costs $5. Call the Hawai'i Nature Center at 955-0100.

LOOKING AHEAD

• Honolulu Zoo Summer Explorers: Adventurers ages 5 to 12 learn the importance of conservation and saving endangered wildlife, June 10 to 14. Other weeklong sessions begin every other week from June 17 through Aug. 26. Tuition $160. For registration form, call 971-7195.
• Summer music: Young musicians who have had at least a year of instruction on a string instrument must apply by June 10 to join the Hawaii Youth Symphony Association. The Summer Strings program gathers children 8 and older for practice one hour daily, weekdays, June 17 through July 26 at UH-Manoa Music Department. Costs $100. Call 941-9706.   Auditions for Youth Symphony I, Youth Symphony II and Concert Orchestra will be held the first two weekends in June. (Auditions for string musicians will be in September.) Audition fee is $25. Call HYSA to request audition music.

• Rolling Stones and Sweet Potatoes: Play Hawaiian games, learn the legend of Pu'u 'Ualaka'a and work in a taro plot, 9:30 a.m. to noon June 11 at Hawai'i Nature Center. For ages 5 and older. Costs $5. Reserve at 955-0100.
• Barnes & Noble: The Kahala Mall bookstore presents a summer reading program for children, 2 p.m. June 12.
• Japanese culture: Rev. Seiko Okahashi teaches hiragana (Japanese alphabet), folk stories, songs, brush painting, osencha (tea ceremony) and other subjects on Saturdays, June 15 through Aug. 3, at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii. Classes are open to students ages 6 to 13 (from 9 a.m. to noon) and 14 to 20 (from 1 to 3:30 p.m.). Tuition is $75. Call 945-7633.
