Samuel takes on Kaiser risk manager post

Developing educational programs to head off problems and litigation, such as medical malpractice, is the job of Louise Samuel, the new risk manager at Kaiser Permanente.

"Kaiser's philosopy is prevention," Samuel said. "We subscribe to prevention to better serve each other and our patients. We will have a continual education program for everyone from the physicans to the housekeepers."

Samuel has more than 20 years of experience at Kaiser, most recently as manager of the neuroscience and rehabilitation department.

She earned a bachelor's degree in nursing at the University of Hawaii.

Kaiser, founded in Hawaii in 1958, includes 300 physicians and 3,300 employees, which provide medical care to 190,000 people at 14 clinics in Hawaii. Kaiser also operates an acute care hospital and skilled care facility on Oahu.
