Vandals keep cutting holes
in Vineyard median fence
QUESTION: Can you get the hole in the median fence in the 500 block of North Vineyard fixed? I've called senators and representatives and the Department of Transportation. They all assure me the hole will be taken care of but I still see it. Since there's a fence on that median, you don't expect to have kids and adults dart out in front of you.
ANSWER: It is dangerous but adults and kids probably won't pay attention until someone does get killed crossing through the hole in the fence or a security camera is installed to photograph the vandals. State Department of Transportation workers have fixed that fence about six times already this year, said Ross Smith, department spokesman.
After workers fix the fence and reinforce the area that was cut open, vandals return and cut through the reinforced area or just move down a few feet and cut through a new spot, Smith said.
Someone with regular business in the area apparently is unwilling to walk to the corner of the block and cross Vineyard on the pedestrian crosswalk with traffic lights.
Transportation workers will fix the fence again, Smith said last week.
