Husband leads police to wife's body

Jocelyn Arenas' pursuit of a better life in Hawaii ended tragically, apparently at the hands of a jealous husband.

"Oh no," tearful relatives moaned last night as the body of a woman inside a wooden box, covered by a blue tarp, was taken from the side of a Crestview home at 94-955 Lumimoe St., to a nearby medical examiner's vehicle.

Police recovered the body about six hours after arresting Domingo Arenas Caguioa, who later admitted to detectives that he killed his wife and told them where they could find her body, police said.

Caguioa, 39, a handyman, had been hired by a Realtor to work on the Lumimoe Street home. The box containing the body was in a shallow grave under a newly constructed concrete sidewalk at the side of the house, near a retaining rock wall.

Arenas had been last seen on March 6.

Police, Navy investigate body found near Nuuanu Stream

Police notified Navy criminal investigators searching for a missing Marine after discovering a man's decomposed body near Nuuanu Stream yesterday.

Naval investigators are looking for Marine Lance Cpl. Juan Ramon Guerrero, who has been missing since May 7.

Police say there's no evidence the body found yesterday is Guerrero. But they notified the Navy because of the recent missing persons case.

The body was found in thick brush along Nuuanu Pali Road in a popular mud-sliding area. An autopsy will be done today.

Mirikitani resists DeSoto over tower transfer

There was to be no confrontation today when City Council Chairman John DeSoto orders staffers to move Councilman Andy Mirikitani's belongings to a remote eighth-floor office at City Hall.

"We are not going to physically try to fight with them, that's going to lead to problems," said John Edmunds, Mirikitani's attorney. "We're going to do what people do in a civilized society. We're going to go to court."

DeSoto gave Mirikitani until close of business yesterday to vacate Room 202 and return his keys.

The order came Friday after DeSoto's chief aide, Colleen Sakai, filed a police complaint against Mirikitani. Sakai claims Mirikitani verbally harassed her and treated her in a threatening manner while in her office. Sakai said that besides yelling at her, he beat his head with his hands and made other wild gestures, shut the door, and blocked her from leaving.

Mirikitani says the charges are ludicrous and in retaliation for his opposition to political positions taken by DeSoto and the Council majority.

Maui police seek murder suspect

OLINDA, Maui - Police are searching for a suspect in the killing of a 40-year-old Makawao man, following an argument that erupted in gunfire yesterday in rural Olinda.

The dead man has been identified as William Simpson Jr., who was unemployed.

A woman who fled with the male suspect was arrested yesterday afternoon driving a pickup truck in Haiku after a chase.

Police believe the male suspect left the woman and pickup earlier in Makawao and fled on foot. He was described as weighing 175 pounds, with curly hair and fair skin, and wearing brown shorts and no shirt.

"At this point, we consider him armed," said police Lt. Wayne Ribao.

Ribao said Simpson was found shot outside the main house at 552-C Piiholo Road. He said detectives were unsure about the motive for the shooting.
