Jeffrey Nauser leaves after one month on the job.
By Russ LynchThe agency will go back to the list from its recent selection process
It took five months to narrow the previous selection down to three finalists and select Nauser, a Colorado-based consultant who also had advertising and marketing experience in Hawaii.
But Paul Casey, HVB president and chief executive officer, said the selection process should be faster this time.
"One of the reasons we can move a little more quickly is that some people who were not available three or four months ago have called and said they now are available and are interested," Casey said today.
Keith Vieira, HVB marketing committee chairman, also said the bureau won't have to start from the beginning for this search. "We'll go back through the people who had expressed interest in the position and put together a list of additional people we'd like to see in the job," said Vieira, who is vice president and marketing director of ITT Sheraton Hawaii.
Many of those on the original list are still interested, he said.
The job involves overseeing advertising and public relations, particularly for the lagging mainland market, as well as coordinating the HVB's ad campaigns and coming up with a brand image for Hawaii.
Unlike the senior vice president's position held by Cathleen Johnson, who left in November, the marketing vice presidency now does not include overseeing convention marketing or the day-to-day activities of the sales staff.
Casey said that while the search continues for a new marketing vice president, the HVB is running well. "We're putting the finishing touches to the campaign for fiscal 1996-97. Everything's functioning. Nothing has stopped."
HVB officials won't say why Nauser left and Nauser could not be reached for comment today.
