Lokahi takes Hui Wa'a meet

Lokahi Canoe Club of Honolulu kept its Na Ohana O Na Hui Wa'a Association streak alive yesterday, winning big at Kailua Beach.

The Ala Wai Canal-based Lokahi topped Hui Wa'a's five-club AA division, outscoring Honolulu's Koa Kai, 79-64. Haleiwa's Manu O Ke Kai finished third with 36 points.

Kaneohe topped the nine-club A division with 42 points, followed by Waikiki Yacht Club (21 points) and Kalihi Kai (18 points).

In claiming its second consecutive title this season, Lokahi won 10 of the 32 events, placed second in six and finished third in six others.

Second place Koa Kai won six heats and finished second in 10.

While Lokahi topped the senior women's race with its win over Koa Kai, Waikiki Beach Boys upset Lokahi in the men's senior contest.

Hui Wa'a racing resumes on Sunday at Keehi Lagoon with the third regatta of its nine-race season.
