Wahine in volleyball tourney

The University of Hawaii Wahine will join defending national champion Nebraska, Florida and host Illinois State in the second State Farm NACWAA Volleyball Classic, Aug. 23-24, at Normal, Ill.

The Wahine (31-1), ranked No. 2 at the end of the regular season, will take on top-seeded Florida in the first semifinal Aug. 23. The Cornhuskers, with Hawaii prep star Fiona Nepo starting at setter, face the Redbirds in the second semifinal of the event sponsored by the National Association of Collegiate Women's Athletic Administrators.

The third-place game is scheduled for 2 p.m. HST and will be followed by the title match. Both semifinals will be televised live on ESPN2 with the championship match live on ESPN.

Tournament passes are $10 for both nights while single-session tickets are $6 for adults, $3 for ages 14-under. Groups of 10 or more can purchase tickets at $4 per person per session.

Tickets are available by calling 309-438-8000. Last year, Hawaii, Nebraska and Florida had a combined 98-4 record.

Hawaii led the nation in attendance in 1995, averaging 6,042 fans a match. Nebraska, whose only loss of the season was to Stanford in last year's NACWAA tournament, was second (3,829), with Florida third (2,559) and Illinois State sixth (2,019).



PARTY FOR ELDREDGE

Family and friends are planning a June 9 party for Dave Eldredge, who is retiring at age 64 after spending 46 years at Punahou School as a student, teacher and coach.

The party begins at 5:30 p.m. at Punahou's Alexander Field, and musical entertainment will be provided by Kapono, Nalani Olds, Kualoa and Tropical Breeze.

The cost of $25 per person includes dinner, a gift and contribution to the Dave Eldredge endowment fund. Ten dollars is tax deductible.

Those attending should send checks, payable to the "Dave Eldredge Retirement Party," to Shirley Laskey, 762 Kalanipuu St., Honolulu, HI 96825. Names will be listed at the reservation table. No tickets will be sent out.



WRESTLING CAMP

The 1996 Iowa Style Wrestling Camp will be held Aug. 4-8 at the University of Hawaii. Several present and former NCAA champions will serve as staff members. Also expected to be here are Olympic qualifier Erik Akin and University of Wisconsin coach Bart Chelsvig.

The fee for resident campers is $325. The commuter fee is $225. For information, send a self-

HOOPS CAMPS

Hall of Fame members Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Bill Walton and other NBA stars will be in Hawaii Aug. 7-9 for Bank of America's Jammin' Hoops Camp at Salt Lake District Park.

The camp is free and open to the first 1,200 youngsters, age 7-17, who turn their applications.

Applications can be obtained at any branch of Bank of America, at all Boys and Girls clubs of Honolulu and through the Summer Fun program offered by the City and County of Honolulu.
