AGRICULTURE

Cooperative Extension Service, College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources: Food Irradiation workshop offered around the state. Learn about irradiation technology, radiation sources, facilities, doses, what happens to insects, food or plants when irradiated, purpose and application of irradiation, and safety, consumer and policy issues. Also learn about the test-marketing of irradiated Hawaii-grown fruit shipped to Indiana, Illinois and Ohio in 1995. Workshops start at 9 a.m., dates and locations follow: June 6, Komohana Agricultural Complex, 875 Komahana St., Room A, Hilo; June 13, Maui Community College, Community Services Building, Kahului.

Topics include setting fees for maximum profit; contracts, billings and collections; identifying hidden consulting opportunities; strategies to always get paid; minimizing risk and professional liability. Hawaii State Bar Association: Join task forces to enhance the civil justice system presenting recommendations for adoption at the Fall Citizens Conference. Task forces are: user-friendly justice, 9 a.m. to noon, June 4; fairness and equality, 1 to 4 p.m. June 4; economic access, 9 a.m. to noon June 7; life without a justice system, 1 to 4 p.m. June 7; and appropriate dispute resolution, 1 to 4 p.m. June 26.
