Garcia bumped from No. 1 spot

Shane Beschen of San Clemente, Calif., won the $105,000 Marui Pro surfing tournament at Torami Beach, Japan, jumping past Hawaii's Sunny Garcia to the top of the world rankings. Garcia now is No. 2

In the one-sided final, Beschen beat Australian Luke Egan in small, wind-swept waves for the $14,000 top prize.

The dream run of Hawaii's Conan Hayes came to an end in the quarterfinals at the hands of Australian Michael Rommelse, but he finished tied for fifth place, moving him from 38th to 24th in the world.

Another Hawaii surfer, Kaipo Jaquias, was a victim of Beschen on the way to the final, but his fifth place overall in the season's fourth Coca-Cola/ASP World Championship Tour event puts him No. 5 in the ratings.

The next WCT tour event is the Quiksilver Pro at East Java from Thursday to June 8.
