
They ousted a foe of same-sex marriages from a key party post, gained undisputed control of the party's Central Committee and passed resolutions to aid the needy and hike taxes during their three-day biennial convention that concluded yesterday.
Lobbyist Linda Rosehill, 45, a moderate Democrat who became a party activist 16 years ago, said she believes she was ousted as national committeewoman because she is a key player in the drive to prevent legalized homosexual marriages and because delegates "wanted people who would work with Richard Port's team."
State Civil Rights Chairwoman Amy Agbayani, 53, said she believes her position in favor of gay marriages played "an important part" in her victory over Rosehill.
Port, a leader of the party's Rainbow Coalition, was re-elected without opposition to a second two-year term as state party chairman, although moderate and conservative Democrats had been hunting for a challenger.
They'll be reminding neighbors to stick to the 25 mile per hour speed limit along Hardesty Street and 10th Avenue.
The well-traveled road is near schools, small businesses and homes.
Residents have been shaken by the death of an 84-year-old pedestrian who was struck by a car while crossing Palolo Avenue in March.

The collision occurred at 2:53 a.m. near the Kaahumanu Street Overpass on the H-1 freeway. The west-bound officer, whose name was not released, was behind the two other west-bound motorcycles.
One of the other cyclists, also injured, was treated at Queen's and released.
She told police that between 8:30 and 8:45 p.m. a man in his 20s grabbed her from behind and sexually assaulted her as she walked to a friend's house.
