City Refuse Division
will take hazardous insecticide

Question:How can I get rid of about two gallons of dieldrin? I have it left over from years ago when I used it at home. My understanding is that I'm no longer allowed to use it. So, what do I do with it?

Answer: Since that insecticide is left over from use at your home, the city Refuse Division will accept it as part of its household hazardous waste program. Call Nannette Tong at 523-4774 in the Refuse Division. She'll tell you when and where to deliver the dieldrin. Because of the special handling required, appointments are needed for homeowners bringing in hazardous materials.

If the chemical or insecticide had been left over from a business, you would have to deal with a private company to dispose of it. The private companies that handle dangerous or potentially hazardous material are listed under Environmental and Ecological Services, starting on Page 455 of the Oahu yellow pages telephone book.
