"We're trying to promote from within," Santos said. "We want to be more versatile and do more with our people."

More than 100 people work at the Atlantis operation out of the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Atlantis can make as many as 30 dives a day, using three submarines, Santos said.

Santos most recently was general manager for National Car Rental in Honolulu. He has more than 10 years of management experience, mostly in car rental business in California, New York and Las Vegas.

Santos grew up in Berkeley, Calif., and earned a bachelor's degree in economics at the University of Oregon.

Atlantis employs 250 at three locations: Kailua-Kona, Lahaina and Waikiki.
