"Meet ... the Deedles," a $17-million comedy by Walt Disney Studio, will film part of the feature on Oahu in September.

"It's a go," a Disney production executive told the Star-Bulletin this week.

"Meet the Deedles" will film in Honolulu for five days - Sept. 3-7 - spending about $800,000 while here, production officials said.

"Deedles" stars two unknown teen-age boy actors, Jack Noseworthy and Kevin Breznahan. The story revolves around the kamaaina teenagers who have never been off Oahu until their father sends them to a mainland summer camp. Most of the filming - 48 days worth - will be done in Canada though the story begins in Honolulu.

"It's a fish-out-of-water tale," a Disney official said.

In addition to several water-related scenes including surfing, the production also will use the Hawaii Film Studio for some filming.

A Disney technical scout will arrive on Oahu early next month to confirm filming locations. Producers want to hire as many local crew members as possible for the low-budget movie but the exact number has not yet been determined, the company said.

Disney still has not decided whether to film "George of the Jungle," scheduled to start production in early July, in North Carolina or Hawaii. "George" will star Brendon Frazier.
