Mirski to lead neuroscience center at Queen's

Advanced methods to treat stroke - including drugs to dissolve clots which block the flow of blood to the brain - are part of the new Neuroscience Institute at Queen's Medical Center.

"In the last two years, there have been significant new developments through stroke research which suggest that we can now take pro-active measures to undo some of the damage caused by stroke," said Dr. Marek A. Mirski, director of the new facility.

Mirski joined Queen's in January after eight years at John Hopkins Medical Center in Maryland. He had served as assistant professor of anesthesiology, critical care medicine, neurosurgery and, most recently, neurology.

Mirski earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his medical degree and doctorate from Washington University of St. Louis.
