"I love Hawaii, man, been coming here for 28 years and have a lot of dear friends here," said Guthrie during a recent month-long visit to his familiar Mokuleia haunts. "In the old days like the '60s I did a free show at the Bandstand and the next day we played the Shell with Linda Ronstadt. It was great.
"I want to to do a free performance as a thank you for all the aloha that's been given me in 28 years of visiting."
Guthrie is contacting local promoters to help with the logistics. He performed last October on the Big Island as part of the Ironman Triathlon festivities.
Guthrie, who has homes in Florida and Massachussetts, spent April in a Mokuleia beach cottage resting after nearly three years on tour.
"Mystic Journey," Guthrie's album released last January, has a Hawaii connection. Cyril Pahinui plays on one recording.
The hoped-for Honolulu concert to promote the album would kick off a world tour slated for Europe, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Israel.
