ANSWER: The theater-parking pattern on the lowest level next to the Kaneohe Library was intended to be for staff only but now appears to be for both public and staff use. That segment of 16 stalls will be redesigned or restriped so there is no theater-parking or possible blocking for the public, said John Penebacker, special assistant to the state librarian.
In addition, Wendy Cheuk, facilities coordinator for libraries, will check the parking signs and have conflicting signs removed.
The Kaneohe library reopened April 30 after months of renovations to make it accessible to disabled people. Some of the conflicting signs may be left over from the previous arrangement. For example, one sign in front of the library says "Reserved parking, handicap placard required." Another sign, just below it on the same pole says, "Tow away zone." A few feet away, another sign says "Parking for library users only" and on the same pole just below, another sign says, "No parking, loading zone, 10 minute time limit."
The Kaneohe Library is located on a hillside below the Kaneohe Police Station and next to the Kaneohe Civic Center Neighborhood Park. The park has no parking lot.
