Be Kind to Animals Week: Meet Madison the Cat and see works from Kalihi Waena and Kahala schools in "ZooART '96" 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Honolulu Zoo. Barnes & Noble features storytelling at 2 p.m. Call 971-7174.

Keiki-Parent Activity Tour: Children 6 and older discover patterns from nature and in works of art at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. Free. Meet 10 a.m. at the Ward Avenue entrance. Call 532-8700.

For young readers: Ms. Frizzle visits for Keiki Story Time, 11 a.m. at Borders, Waikele. Children can make cards and flowers for mom, with materials supplied by the bookstore, 3 to 4 p.m. The Babysitters Club meets at 7 p.m. in the Video Room.

"Hula Heart": A young boy from Hawaii must cope with life in California. Basketball, ukuleles, hip-hop and hula mix in Honolulu Theatre for Youth's portrayal of a boy's wacky, poignant world 4:30 p.m. at McCoy Pavilion, Ala Moana Park. Tickets are $9 general, $7.50 ages 13 to 18, $5 children and seniors. Call 839-9885.

Keiki Time: An adult and a child age 3 months to 3 years can enjoy a tour of Waikiki Aquarium, creative playtime and a snack, 9 to 10:30 a.m. Cost $12 per pair. Register by mail. Call 923-9741. A second session begins at 1 p.m.

Mother's Day Special: Pay tribute to Mother Nature during a walk through the forest, 9:30 to 11 a.m. Children ages 3 to 5 can watch animal moms care for their families. Costs $5. Call the Hawai'i Nature Center at 955-0100.

What makes Mom special: Children are invited to read their essays and poems celebrating Mom, 3 p.m. at Borders, Waikele. The essay contest winners will be announced.



CONTINUING

"Kaho'olawe" on display: Through images, artifacts and stories, visit the island recently returned to the people of Hawaii, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through May 19 at Bishop Museum. "The Kona Coffee Story" follows the growth of Hawaii's industry and shows how coffee is made, through Sunday. Admission is $7.95 general, $6.95 youths, seniors and military. Call 847-3511.

Spend an evening star-gazing at the Observatory, 7:30 to 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Free. Register at 847-3511.

"Aloha Kilolani: 35 Years of Hawaiian Skies": Program reviews topics from the Planetarium's 35-year history, 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. daily, and 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Costs $3.50. Call Bishop Museum at 847-8201.

Train rides: Enjoy a 90-minute ride through Ewa 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Sundays with the Hawaiian Railway Society, 91-1001 Renton Road. Passengers should arrive a half hour before departure time. Costs $8 general, $5 seniors and children. Call 681-5461 for reservations.
