Darleen Martin was driving on Volcano Highway about 9 p.m. when she was struck by a five-pound rock thrown from a passing car.
Police say seven other drivers on a six-mile stretch of the highway reported similar rock-throwing incidents that night.
Lt. James Kelly says the dark Mustang seized by police was described by one of the other drivers.
A Kaneohe couple say they will fight to keep the house they live in, despite a $175,000 bid on the auction block yesterday.
Gertrude Chun videotaped the auction outside the Circuit Court building while husband Henry watched as eight prospective buyers were whittled to one.
The state foreclosed on the couple's residence at 46-070 Makena Place after Circuit Judge Virginia Crandall determined last October the house belonged to their son, Darrell. Darrell Chun owes $79,000 in child support.
A confirmation hearing on the purchase will be held in the next three to six weeks in Circuit Court, at which time the auction may again be opened if another party enters a bid of 5 percent more than $175,000, Hill said. Once the sale is confirmed, all money beyond $85,000 will go to Darrell Chun, and the family will receive an eviction notice.
"She's a liar, my mom is a liar, I hate her," Boado said the 9-year-old kept repeating.
What hurt most was that Boado had heard the same words from the girl's mother - Boado's daughter - countless times before.
"Where did I go wrong?" said Boado, who waited at her West Loch apartment yesterday for word about the fate of her four grandchildren.
Police went to her daughter's Kauiki Street apartment early Tuesday after Boado called them to check on the children. Officers found three boys, ages 6 months, 1 1/2 and 6, and their sister, 9, alone. Their mother was nowhere to be found.
The children are in protective custody while Child Protective Services decides whether to place them in foster care, with relatives or back with their mother, who it is still trying to locate.
