Dingeman, 76, was the father of Robbie Dingeman Dias, former Honolulu Star-Bulletin and KHON-TV reporter and current Honolulu Advertiser reporter.
David Dingeman had several articles published. He wrote about military issues such as operations research and military police.
He began his active duty the day after the Pearl Harbor attack in 1941. He served as an engineer for the U.S. Army and later as commanding officer of the Criminal Investigation Laboratory in Georgia; chief of operations division, provost marshal section in Korea; provost marshal of headquarters, U.S. Continental Army Command; and most recently provost marshal, Headquarters, U.S. Army, Pacific.
By the time Dingeman retired in 1972, he received several honors including the Legion of Merit with two oak leaf clusters award, the Bronze Star, and the Army Commendation Medal.
Dingeman retired from the military, but he didn't stop working. He became chief of security and customs liaison for Duty Free Shoppers Ltd. and retired from there in 1982. He then kept active in several community and professional organizations.
Born in San Francisco, he is also survived by wife Josephine B.; daughter Jessica Thomas; son David R. Jr.; and four grandchildren.

Lester Sumrall of South Bend, Ind., founder of LeSEA Broadcasting Inc. which owns and operates KWHE TV-14 in Honolulu, KWHH TV-14 in Hilo and KWHM TV-21 in Wailuku, died April 28 in Indiana.
Sumrall, 83, a worldwide missionary, wrote more than 130 books and teaching study guides. He also was the publisher of the World Harvest Magazine.
