In a stew: Tomorrow is the entry deadline for the inaugural KTA Amy Ferguson-Ota Paniolo Stew Cookoff set for May 26 in Waimea, Big Island. Midsummer Night's Feast: Fourteen of Hawaii's premier chefs, including Oliver Altherr of Kahala Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Beverly Gannon of Maui's Haliimaile General Store, and Alan Wong, named Monday as 1996 James Beard best chef in the Northwest, present delectables Sunday, Hawaii Prince Hotel; $150 with proceeds benefiting Ballet Hawaii. Traditional diets: Twenty-four adults will be sought to participate in research comparing traditional Hawaiian and Medi-terranean diets in July and August at Pacific Cultural Center. Up in smoke: R. Field Wine Company hosts a "Generous Smoker" 6 p.m. May 9 at the Pacific Club to benefit the Easter Seal Society of Hawaii. San Diego Chargers safety Shaun Gayle, Playboy's Miss February Kona Carmack and magician Curtis Kam are among celebrities introducing exclusive cigars. The cigars accompany a four-course meal with fine wines, cognacs and single malt scotches. Tickets are $125. Reserve at 596-9463.
