Kaneohe resident bugged by
late-night handiwork

Question:Where can we get help for our neighborhood in Kaneohe? Several men, who live together in a rented house, use the carport as a workshop and storage area for an interior decorating business. They think nothing of using a power saw at night. We've tolerated nail pounding, spray painting, loud talking and arguing sometimes until 2 a.m. Complaining to the landlady does no good as she tells us, "Let them finish their project."

Answer: A city inspector checked the address you provided but found no sawing or other prohibited work in progress at that time, said William K. Deering, head of the housing code section of the city Building Department.

The occupants are allowed to do certain things at that address for their business under provisions for home occupations. For example, they can accept products delivered to the residence by United Parcel Service or the U.S. Post Office and then take those items elsewhere for installation. They are not allowed to store such business products in the house or garage, or to saw, paint or do other work on them there. But they are allowed to do at home the paperwork or book work connected to the business. For additional information, call Deering at 527-6308.
