UH men's head coach Riley Wallace signed 6-foot-2 shooting guard Aaron Curry out of Howard College in Big Spring, while women's head coach Vince Goo landed 6-2 post player Sutton Helvey of Grayson Community College.
Helvey averaged 14 points and 10 rebounds for the school that competed in the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference.
The Grayson Community College team was ranked No. 1 for most of the season before losing to Independence (Kan.) in the national tournament.
"She's a consistent scorer, a good rebounder and she plays smart and passes well," Wahine assistant coach George Wolfe said yesterday in a press release.
As for Curry, Wallace said last night he will probably be a shooting guard for the Rainbows. He averaged 12 points and seven assists while at Howard, but dropped in 18 points a game as a No. 2 guard at Sacramento City (Calif.) in his freshman season.
"That pretty much does it for us right now without knowing how our underclassmen are doing in school this semester," Wallace said.
"If we lose anyone off our current team, then we may sign someone else."
The Rainbows signed five players - four of them guards - to scholarship next season. They are Curry, Kawika Akina of Dixie (Utah) College, Mike Robinson of Lassen (Calif.) Community College, Anthony Carter of Saddleback (Calif.) Community College and Kelvin Anderson of McCook (Neb.) Community College.
Goo also has another recruit in camp.
Helvey joins 5-8 guard Kyla Evers of Kitsap (Wash.) High, who signed earlier this spring.
