UH basketball players honored

Tiffany Fujimoto was named Most Inspirational at the University of Hawaii women's basketball awards banquet Sunday night.

Fujimoto, a junior guard, was selected by a vote of the Wahine coaches and players.

Other honors went to senior forward Tania Brunton (Most Outstanding/Offense) and sophomore guard Nani Cockett (Most Outstanding/Defense).

A special coaches' award went to junior center Kendis Leeburg as the most outstanding citizen. Sophomore guard Michelle Macintyre, a 4.0 student all three semesters at UH, was the top scholar-athlete.



VULCANS TAME MUSTANGS: At Hilo, Klayford Nakaahiki and Bren dan Sagara pitched complete games as the University of Hawaii at Hilo Vulcans (14-29) swept the Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo Mustangs (25-21), 4-1 and 8-4, in a nonconference baseball doubleheader at the UHH Stadium yesterday.



'SWORDS SPLIT: At Hilo's Carvalho Park, Chaminade defeated the University of Hawaii at Hilo in the opener of a nonconference women's softball doubleheader, 3-1, then lost the second game, 5-0.

Sara Lacar's two-run single was the key hit in a three-run third inning for the Silverswords (14-24) in the first game.

The Vulcans (34-22) rode the four-hit pitching of Kelly Guerin to a 5-0 victory in the second game. Darlani Nazarino's two run double highlighted a five-run sixth.
