Academy Art Center, 1111 Victoria St., 532-8700. "Young People's Art," created by youth in kindergarten through 12th grade who participated in spring classes, on view Saturday through May 2.

Arts of Paradise, International Marketplace, 924-2787. "Oils and Clay," paintings and ceramics by Ken Taylor, on view in May. Taylor, who worked on Navaho pottery with masters at Anderson's Ranch in Colorado, will demonstrate "Underglazes in Pottery" 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. May 16.

Gallery Iolani, Windward Community College, 45-720 Keaahala Road, 235-7346. "Young Windward Artists 1996," with guest artist Dorothy Faison, opens with a reception 4 to 7 p.m. Friday. Show of works by Windward high school students continues through May 10.

Ho`omaluhia Botanical Garden, 45-680 Luluku Road, Kaneohe, 233-7323. "Aloha Ho`omaluhia XII," featuring Anne Bush, Peter Chamberlain, Debra Drexler, Toni Martin, Shuzo Uemoto, Karen White and other artists, Monday through May 28. The works, in various media, address people's paradoxical attitudes toward the beauty and spirit of the land. Opening reception 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

"Taisho Chic" explores modern influences during Japan's Taisho period. "Spring Blossoms" features Chinese paintings and ceramics over the centuries. "John Young: A Retrospective," works from the Hawaii-born artist's early days and first trips to China and Mexico in the 1930s and '40s, to the present, through May 5.

"Poets and Waterfalls," woodblock prints created around 1830 by Katsushika Hokusai, on view through May 19.

"East Meets West: Ceramics and Silver from Hawaii Collections," through June 1. Explore cross-cultural influences from as early as the 7th and 8th centuries B.C.

"Pulp Fictions": The Texas Fine Arts Association is accepting slide submissions of art using paper as the support through May 20. Entry fees are $24 general, for three slides; $5 each additional slide, to a maximum of 10.
