Telecom firm abuzz with changes

With the increased competition among communications companies, Long Distance/USA-Sprint is looking at possibly expanding its already huge staff in Hawaii.

"We're trying to prepare ourselves for the many changes in our industry," said Glenn Yamashita, who oversees a staff of 435. His new responsibilities include the 24-hour customer service center; billing and invoice processing center; new order processing; installations and activations; and all network planning, engineering and technical operations.

Yamashita joined the company in 1989 and worked on the strategic business plan. He also worked three years as a financial analyst for Campbell Estate. Yamashita earned a bachelor's in accounting and finance at the University of Hawaii and a master's in management at Northwestern University.
