More than 175,000 people go hungry at some time during the year , the Hawaii Foodbank reports. The group hopes its food drive Saturday will help these people by collecting 175,000 pounds of food and $175,000.
All donations of food and money can be dropped off from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Restaurant Row, Barbers Point and Pearl Harbor naval air stations, Hickam Air Force Base, Kaneohe Marine Corps base, Schofield Barracks and at Koko Marina, Mililani, Pearl City and Windward City shopping centers.
Suggested food products include canned or dried fruits and vegetables, low-fat canned meats, canned soups, beans, juices, dried or canned milk products, rice, pasta, crackers and whole grain products. Information: 836-3600.
The artwork by adults and children is produced from trash and other discarded material. There will be an opening reception tomorrow from 5 to 7 p.m. "Children's Recycle Art '96" is displayed on the third floor of City Hall and in the Lane Gallery.
The courtyard show continues through May 8; the children's show, through May 2. Information: 527-5335.
For the children there will be a carnival game area and entertainment. For adults there will be performances by the Peter Moon Band, Brother Noland, Kapena, Posse on a Mission and others.
And, of course, there will be food.
