Who should cut the tree?
Depends on who owns it

Question: There are bushes or trees overhanging near the intersection at the end of my street. There are no traffic signals at the intersection and the overgrowth blocks the view so you can't see traffic coming. Whom do I contact to get some trimming done?

Answer: That depends on who owns the ground in which the trees or bushes are growing.

If you can tell that the trees are clearly on city property, call 971-7151, the beautification section of the city Department of Parks and Recreation. Generally, city property is the area nearest the street or outside of the private owner's property line.

If the trees or bushes start inside someone's fence and are so overgrown that the sidewalk is blocked or difficult to use, call 527-6308, the housing code section of the city Building Department.

A worker will check and, if necessary, require the property owner to get the trees or bushes trimmed.

If the trees or bushes are causing a traffic problem but you're not sure who owns the wood or where it starts, call police and officers will determine who is responsible and give notice that trimming is needed.

This is a good time to remind residents to check their property lines and behave as good neighbors.

Trees and bushes sometimes grow very quickly and may encroach on public or private property without owners being aware of it.
