UH to recognize student athletes

Twenty-one University of Hawaii student-athletes will be honored for their academic achievements at tomorrow's volleyball match between California and UH.

Among those being recognized for 4.0 grade-point averages the past two semesters are volleyball players Yuval Katz and Sivan Leoni. Also with 4.0s are basketball player Michelle Macintyre and swimmer Lar Jonas Brodin.

The ceremony will take place between Games 2 and 3. The event is held in conjunction with National Student-Athlete Day.

Blood bank drive at UH

University of Hawaii athletic team members will team up to play the game that saves lives Friday when the Blood Bank's Bloodmobile will be stationed at the Mauka side of the Special Events Arena from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Healthy adults, 18 years or older (17 year olds can donate with a signed parental consent form) who weigh at least 110 pounds can probably give blood. The donation takes about an hour, and includes a mini-physical prior to the donation and refreshments afterward.

All donors are asked to bring a valid picture I.D.

ILH baseball at Aloha Stadium

Interscholastic League of Honolulu is converting six of its remaining regular-season baseball games into tripleheaders at Aloha Stadium.

On Saturday, Damien plays St. Louis at 9 a.m., Mid-Pacific takes on Punahou at noon and Kamehameha meets Iolani at 3 p.m.

On April 20, University High School/Hawaii Baptist Academy plays Iolani at 9 a.m., Kamehameha meets Mid-Pacific at noon and Punahou plays St. Louis at 3 p.m.

The games will be available on videotape. For information, call the events manager at 486-9556.

UH sailors place

The University of Hawaii coed sailing team placed second and fourth overall last weekend at the St. Francis Collegiate Regatta at San Francisco.
