OPENING

Amfac Plaza Exhibition Center, 700 Bishop St.: "College Art 1996," a professionally juried show of works by students, opens with a reception 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Show continues through April 19. Entries must be submitted to the center between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday. Entry fee $3 per piece, maximum of 10 entries per student. Contemporary Museum, 2411 Makiki Heights Drive, 526-0232: "India Journey," documentary photography by Barry Chann, 1989 to 1995; "Concentrations 3," paintings, drawings and prints by William T. Wiley; "Invented Realities," a survey of developments in photography from the 1970s to the 1990s; and recent works on paper (paintings and sketches) by John Young; on view Wednesday through June 9.

Honolulu Academy of Arts, 900 S. Beretania St., 532-8700: "Poets and Waterfalls," woodblock prints created around 1830 by Katsushika Hokusai, on view Monday through May 19.

Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii, 2454 S. Beretania St., 945-7633: "Achievements," works by secondary public and private school students, on view Saturday through 30.

University of Hawaii Commons Gallery, Art Building, 2535 The

Mall, 956-6888:
"Kept and Treasured: Seal Engraving in Asia" opens Monday. Seals and related items from collections in Hawaii and Asia, some dating from 3,000 B.C. Local artists will demonstrate calligraphy and seal carving at a reception 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 13. Show continues through April 19.

Waikiki Gallery at the Aston Park Shore Hotel, 595-2399: "Again! Again!!" by Juanita Kenda and Louis Pohl is featured at the gallery's grand opening Sunday - also the start of a three-month fund-raiser for a new nonprofit agency, ArCH, which will provide a calendar of arts and culture events on-line and in a monthly newsletter. Show continues through June.

IMAGE Exhibition: The Image Foundation is accepting entries for the 22nd annual juried show of contemporary photography in Hawaii.
