In the first game, the Vulcans got a six-hit pitching performance from right-hander Jennifer Medel to win, 2-1. Medel struck out two and walked two.
The score was tied, 1-1, in the bottom of the sixth inning, when catcher Renee Murano doubled in senior infielder Olga Martinez from second with the deciding run. Martinez had reached when she was hit by a pitch.
In the second game, Vulcans right-hander Kelly Guerin pitched one-hitter and struck out seven, but lost a 1-0 heartbreaker. A catcher's error in the the seventh inning allowed Binghamton to score.
The Vulcans are 21-12. Binghamton is 6-2.
LeGrand, one of two Hawaii players competing on the Association of Volleyball Professionals tour, was awarded a grant from the Tom Haine endowment fund. The Punahou School graduate was ranked among the top 50 players on the AVP two-man beach tour last season.
Also receiving grants were judoka Clifton Sunada, who has qualified for the U.S. Olympic judo team, and Mililani High School swimmer Keiko Price, who recently competed in the Olympic trials but did not make the U.S. team.
Two sports organizations also received grants. For the second consecutive year, the International Hawaii Canoe Association was awarded a grant. IHCA officials will attend the World Sprints in Noumea, New Caledonia, in May.
The Royal Hawaiian Rowing Challenge was awarded a grant for a fourth year to continue the development of its international event. The third annual crew regatta is scheduled for next January on the Ala Wai Canal.

The format is three-person teams, 1-2 best ball, with the field limited to the first 72 teams (216 players). The cost is $390 per team, $130 per person.

The registration fee is $125 until April 30; $160 beginning May 1.
The fee includes transportation from Honolulu or Neighbor Islands to Molokai and return for rider and bicycle, catered meals, snacks and drinks at rest stops, bicycle inspection, support crew, gear wagon and emergency medical and communications support.
In addition to the registration fee, trekkers are asked to collect a minimum of $500 in pledges to support lung health research and education in the islands.
