Edwards takes helm at Diagnostic Laboratory

Diagnostic Laboratory Services Inc., one of the state's largest medical laboratories, is making some organizational changes through a new president, Dr. John Edwards Jr.

"We're making our organization stronger and more competitive," Edwards said.

He has been acting administrator of DLS since December when the previous general manager, John Thomas, resigned to join another firm. Edwards came to DLS from Queen's Health Systems, where he was vice president for physician relations since July 1994. Prior to that, he was vice president for medical staff services at Queen's Medical Center.

Edwards had a full-time urology practice in Honolulu from 1970 to 1993. He received his medical degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C.

DLS is owned 90 percent by Queen's Health Systems and 10 percent by Kuakini Health System.
