Halau marks 20 years of performance

Halau Mohala Ilima, directed by kumu hula Mapuana De Silva, will perform at 6 p.m. Sunday at Mamiya Theatre on the St. Louis/Chaminade campus in Kaimuki.

Tickets are $10 and are available from halau members or by calling the halau at 261-0689.

The concert, marking the halau's 20th anniversary, will include a full dress performance of Halau Mohala Ilima's 1996 Merrie Monarch presentation and includes the halau's Miss Aloha Hula participant, Uilani Bobbit. Music will be provided by Uncle Kawai Cockett.

Manoa music fest Sunday

The Manoa Music Festival, featuring Hawaiian, jazz, rock, classical and ethnic music by groups and soloists and performances by local recording artist Joanie Komatsu, Cool Reign and the University of Hawaii Jazz Ensemble runs from 4 to 10 p.m. Sunday inside and in the courtyard at Orvis Auditorium, University of Hawaii-Manoa.

The festival is free.

Refreshments and an assortment of ethnic foods will be available.

"The Gates (Far Away Near)"

The Margaret Jenkins Dance Company of San Francisco performs its full-length collaborative work, "The Gates (Far Away Near)," 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Leeward Community College Theatre. "Gates" features choreography by Jenkins, music by Paul Dresher and poetry by Rinde Eckert and Michael Palmer. Admission $14 general, $12 students, seniors and military.
