Maui clinic to open next week

The Maui Occupational Health Center, a medical clinic with an emphasis on workers compensation and occupational cases, is opening Monday in Kahului.

"We want to work cooperatively with employers and insurers," said Dr. Lorne Direnfeld, clinic founder, owner and medical director. He attributes much of the problems with the workers compensation system to lack of communication.

The new clinic also will provide occupational health services such as medical examinations required of healthy employees. Other services will include urgent care, chiropractic treatment, X-rays and physical therapy.

Direnfeld has been a doctor for 21 years. He received his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and is a certified neurologist with training at Boston University. He also is a member of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
