The Wahine, with Dawn Kaneshiro leading the way, shot a 316 yesterday, an improvement of 32 strokes over Monday's first round, when high winds racked the Treasure Hills Country Club's 5,953 yard, par-72 course.
Hawaii's total is 664. Oral Roberts is second at 672 and Wichita State third at 675.
Kaneshiro shot a 78 yesterday for a 36-hole total of 159 and moved into a tie for first place with Mary Moan of Princeton.
Hawaii's Mei-Lin Poai is tied for eighth place at 165; Tina Holloway is tied for 16th place at 167; Kim Mastre, who fired a 76 yesterday, the best Wahine round, is tied for 34th place at 175 and Maria Griggs is tied for 48th place with a 178.
The tournament ends today.
The Mustangs (11-3) pounded out 18 hits en route to a 19-2 win over the Vulcans (7-20) in the opener.
The Mustangs led the second game, 3-1, when the fog rolled in. The game will be completed before today's scheduled game.
RAINBOWS REMAIN NO. 1 The University of Hawaii men's volleyball team kept its No. 1 ranking in the AVCA/USA Today poll that was released yesterday.
The Rainbows (17-1 overall, 11-0 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation), received the same number of first-place votes (15) and points (239) as last week.
UCLA was second with the other first-place vote and 225 points, also the same as last week.
Long Beach State moved up one spot to No. 3 while Cal State Northridge dropped from third to fourth. Stanford advanced from sixth to fifth place to round out the top five.
COACHES CLINIC Mitch Murray, men's varsity soccer coach at Santa Clara, will conduct a clinic for soccer coaches tomorrow night at Paki Hale across from Kapiolani Park from 7 to 9 p.m.
Murray's subject will be attacking soccer. There is no charge.
FREESTYLE WRESTLING TOURNEY
USA Wrestling-Hawaii will host a freestyle wrestling tournament at Kamehameha Schools' Kekuhaupio Gym on Saturday.
Weigh-in and registration will be held from 8 to 9 a.m., with competition beginning at 10 a.m.
There is a one-time registration fee of $25 (good for all tournaments this year) and a $3 fee for each tournament.
The tournament will conclude with a free clinic by Matt Ghaffari, the United States' No. 1-ranked superheavyweight and Olympic hopeful.

GOALKEEPERS' CLINIC Iolani head soccer coach Bob Barry will hold a goalkeepers' clinic June 6-8 at the Iolani soccer fields from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day.
