City crew will check on Kailua erosion problem

QUESTION: Please help us get needed attention on severe erosion next to our property in Kailua. I've tried calling the Army Corps of Engineers but just get passed from one person to another.

We live on Mokapu Road, and the back of our lot borders on the canal. That back area has eroded 5 or 6 feet since November. It needs attention.

ANSWER: That area is owned by the state but maintained by the city, according to Darwin Hamamoto, deputy director of the city Department of Public Works.

He said a crew will check the area, figure out what is causing the erosion and take care of making the necessary changes.
