KSSK owner to expand reach in isle market

An Atlanta company that already owns three Honolulu radio stations has struck a deal to buy four more, a transaction that would make the company the dominant player in Oahu's crowded market.

Patterson Broadcasting Inc., which owns top-rated KSSK-AM/FM and KUCD-FM, signed a letter of intent to purchase KIKI-AM/FM, KKLV-FM and KHVH-AM from Henry Broadcasting Co. subsidiaries, Patterson announced yesterday.

Western eatery, sports bar to join Aloha Tower line-up

A Western-theme restaurant and a sports bar will replace the Sloppy Joe's and Fat Tuesday restaurants at the Aloha Tower Marketplace with openings in late May or June.

Buffalo Bud's Bar and Grill will replace Sloppy Joe's with barbecue food, dancing and a mechanical bull, said Helene "Sam" Shenkus, public relations manager at the marketplace.

Hawaii restaurateur Alan Ho will own and operate Buffalo Bud's.

He also plans to open the Pier 8 Sports Bar in the smaller space formerly used by Fat Tuesday. It will feature satellite broadcasts of sports events, Shenkus said.

Sloppy Joe's and Fat Tuesday closed in late January after a dispute with Aloha Tower Marketplace over back rent. The marketplace obtained a bankruptcy court eviction order in February.
